Dental Implants have been used for many decades now for replacing missing natural teeth. They can be combined with various types of prostheses to replace teeth, such as crowns, bridges, and even dentures. Perhaps, the most widely employed application of implants is to replace a single missing tooth along with a ceramic crown.
DENTAL CROWNS
A crown can best be described as a prosthetic cap that fits over your own tooth. A crown is considered to be one of the most versatile dentistry options when it comes to getting your teeth back to their former glory. It can also prevent further damage by protecting the cracked, compromised, or decayed teeth, and it is a preferred cosmetic technique to whiten stained or discolored teeth.
A crown, once fitted, is the visible part of your tooth that everyone will see, which is why they are customized to meet your needs, considering everything from your alignment and bite to the color, shape as well as the size of your natural teeth.
DENTAL IMPLANT CROWNS
While a dental crown is fitted to a tooth with an existing root structure, a dental implant crown replaces an entire tooth or teeth, including the root. Unlike a dental crown that sits above the gumline, an implant is placed into the jawbone, and a dental implant crown is then attached by a screw. The implant is below the gum line and not visible.
Dental implant crowns are incredibly durable and can last a long time, but you still need to take care of them, making sure the gum around the implant is always clean. Even though it has an artificial root structure and tooth, infection can still occur, and the implant may need to be removed.
Having teeth that are cracked or missing, especially right in the front part of your mouth, can make you feel self-conscious about talking or smiling. Dental crowns help restore your smile, so you can feel more comfortable around others and gain confidence. These caps or coverings go over cracked or decayed teeth or replace missing teeth when combined with implants
There are implant options other than traditional implant. There are narrow diameter implants that may be used in some situations where the jaw bone is thin. In the past these implants were called “mini implants” and were intended for temporary use. The modern narrow diameter implants are now approved for permanent use. There are also short body implants that may be used in some situations. These implants can be used in certain patient situations where the bone height is too short for conventional implants.
At Prestigious Smiles, dental implants require the patient to satisfy a few physical conditions to be deemed suitable for the restoration. Some of them are adequate jawbone volume, ample spacing for implant placement, a good overall state of health, willingness to undergo multiple oral surgeries, etc. Once these factors are met, we will confirm your eligibility. X-rays and digital scans of the mouth will be taken to get a better view of the jawbone and tooth roots as well.
During the initial surgery, we will administer local anesthesia to numb the oral tissues before making a small hole in the jawbone. Dr. Zarghouni will meticulously place the implant stud in the hole and secure it firmly with dental adhesives. After a healing period of a few months, we will schedule the follow-up consultation to place the abutment and ceramic crown on it. The crown will be attached to the implant after confirming its alignment and position. We will then take a bite test and polish the crown to make it appear as pleasing as possible.
We invite you to schedule a consultation with our dentist, Dr. Zarghouni, to get all your oral concerns addressed at the earliest. Please call Dentist in Houston TX at (281) 880-6666 or reach out through online consultation and we’ll be happy to help.
